AWS Elastic Beanstalk split the environment's Amazon EC2 instances into batches and deployed a new version one batch at a time after taking them out of service. An immutable deployment launches an entirely new set of instances with the new version while the existing environment continues serving traffic at full capacity. If the new version fails health checks, Elastic Beanstalk terminates only the new fleet and leaves the current production environment unchanged, minimizing blast radius from a bad release.
